Tramps
Ash and smoke from burnt bridges block my ears
From the words they shout to beckon tears.
Their screams and taunts fall idly aside
As my wandering feet simply pass on by.
Inch by inch leads to miles along the road.
Though, I am not so strong in courage.
I've been known to give into fears
From younger days dream of better years.
Times of love and song and merry cheers.
This burrows within me. Whatever is me.
I do not know the way, but everyday,
Every mile will carry me home.
Brother, take it easy if you must.
The road ruins the eager. Green fools fold.
In these eyes and with these hands you can trust.
Though I'm not so strong and my courage cold.
I could hold your burdens awhile.
As children our blood was shed together.
Inch by inch leads to miles along the road.
There lies one path. I will shoulder your weight.
One of these days we will be home.
One of these days we will be home.
Sister, cry if you must.
Tears of love and lost must be held close.
In these eyes and with these hands you can trust.
I've been known to stumble, known to fall,
Known to cry out and curse the stars.
Children holding hands through Summer storms.
Inch by inch lead to miles along this road.
We walk one way. I will shoulder your weight.
One of these days we'll be home.
One of these days we'll be home.
The blood shared and battles fared.
Time lightens darkness in shades of grey.
This road has left us scarred scared and screwed.
Family will be made of us all.
Family will be made of us all.
Inch by inch leads to miles.
I know not what lies ahead.
I can shoulder your weight for a little while.
One of these days we will be home.
